Character Map
Now that we have a solid foundation in taking notes and annotating as we read, let's talk about the characters. This novel is all about the characters: the voices presented, their struggles, their triumphs, etc.
And there is A LOT of them; 18 students to be exact. That can be difficult to keep track of so we're going to create a character map of Mr. Ward's classroom.
The next character map was made specifically for you to track the relationships between each student. While they are all in Mr. Ward's class, they're roles in each others' lives change throughout the novel. Some start as friends, some develop crushes, some help others achieve their dreams, etc. Use this character map to draw lines indicating relationships between each student as you read more about them.

Here are some links to even more character maps. I like giving choices in graphic organizers because they're purpose is to serve the student and help with understanding. Some students might remember each character individually but struggle with how they all relate, while others might not be able to create a picture in their head of each character. These extra links give that much more choice to every student to help them succeed.
