Directing the Novel
Now that we've finished the book, let's move from reader to director! Your role is to imagine yourself as a big time movie director. Your job is to make Bronx Masquerade into a movie. To do so, you should consider the following questions:
- What would the genre of your movie be? Teen flick? Horror? Romance? Coming of age? Documentary? Superhero? Etc.
- Set the tone of your movie by describing colors you'd use, locations you'd shoot at, etc.
- Who would you cast? Look back to descriptions of each character, either explicit or inferred descriptions to see who would best fit them in terms of appearance, tone, etc.
- What music would you use for the movie? Would it be upbeat, happy songs? Songs that share a theme with the novel? Rap? Pop? Oldies?
- Finally, pick one or two poignant, important scenes in the novel and create a storyboard for them.
So, for this assignment you need to create a playlist of songs, cast the characters (you can use your character map for this, simply pick actors/photos out for each), and create the storyboard for your scene.
Below you can find worksheets for the three components of this activity:
